The Victoria International Chalk Art Festival
September 13th – 14th, 2014
Welcome to Canada’s largest street painting festival! Our family friendly, free-to-attend arts celebration presents some of the world’s top international chalk artists as well as those from across British Columbia and our local region. We significantly expand across our beautiful downtown this year to include our new venue at the Royal BC Museum which hosts our exciting 3D chalk painting within a free admission area. This year our festival’s First Nation’s theme is “Nature’s Spirits”, a celebration of art, wonder and adventure. Additionally we present an outdoor performance stage at the intersection of Government and View Street, and a kids chalk zone on Langley Street by Bastion Square. Join us for a full filled weekend and watch amazing art unfold!
Royal BC Museum
This year, our weekend event significantly expands across our beautiful downtown and we welcome the Royal BC Museum as a new venue. Be sure to visit our 3D chalk painting area at RBCM’s Clifford Carl Hall featuring acclaimed Los Angeles based 3D chalk artist Tracy Lee Stum who along with First Nation’s artist Jamin Zuroski will create a 20’ x 20’ 3D painting over five days. Come early and watch the magic unfold! In order to complete their work on our festival Sunday, Tracy and Jamin begin their painting on Wednesday, September 10th.
Once again we are returning to Victoria’s Government Street encompassing the ‘heritage mile’ which covers some interesting and beautiful architecture. We are looking forward to hosting many more artists this year within our closure zone. If you are an artist and interested in chalking an 8’ X 10’ painting on the street over two days, please fill in an artist’s application form.
